When you are in Ryogoku to see the traditional Sumo wrestling, you might as well try the delicious miso based Chanko Nabe in Ami for your lunch. Chanko is a stew like dish traditionally served to Sumo wrestlers. Apparently, Ryogoku is a mecca for Chanko cuisines as there are many tempting Chanko restaurants around the station, and it is fair to say Ami, where you can have excellent Kaisen Chanko Miso Aji (Seafood Chanko Miso Based 890 yen), serves one of the best in town. The seafood Chanko in Ami is not only reasonable in price, but also quite substantial. The four slices of fresh fish with scallops and prawns and even the squids are inside, bringing out the remarkable flavor of the soup well simmered with the tasty miso paste. We have tried it for the first time and supremely impressed. You will also get two small dishes and free refill of white rice available for the set menu which we thought was unbelievably cheap for such high quality of meal. Meanwhile, if you are a kind of person who is okay with having beer in lunch time, why don't you order the one called "Don Beer" 760 yen which comes with a Donburi (a big bowl). A pint of beer or a bowl of beer we should say.. Do you think you can finish it? We know Sumo wrestlers can.
