Mong Kok preserves its traditional characteristics with an array of markets, small shops, and food stalls that have already disappeared from other areas in Hong Kong over the past several decades of economic developments. As such, a few of these streets in Mong Kok have acquired interesting nicknames reflecting their own characteristics.

The Mong Kok area has many curb-side "food-booths". Most of them sell traditional snacks such as fish balls, fried beancurd (tofu) and various dim sum. These snacks and "fingerfood" are very popular in Hong Kong, especially for folks on the run.

In this page, Picrumb introduces the best local Chinese restaurants near Mongkok Station.

Ming Court 明閣
Ming Court 明閣

The price is just a little bit steeper for Picrumb to introduce depending on what to order, but all dishes in Ming Court we ordered were excellent including the Giant Garoupa Enrobed in Minced Shrimp, Eight Treasure Consomme, and Coral Trout Fillet.  The food, drink (especially wine), atmosphere, and service were absolutely the first class in Ming Court without a doubt. When you are in Mongkok, make sure to have a meal here.

Jasmine Garden 八月軒
Jasmine Garden 八月軒

This is our "must go" place in Mongkok for a reasonable and fine local food. We were quite surprised to experience such quality Cantonese food like crispy barbecued suckling piglet and seared beef fillets with salad in such an authentic environment prepared by the very professional staffs. The atmosphere in Jasmine Garden was very chic but not to the extent where you have to wear formal clothes. It is located at the area with easy access from the station but almost hidden behind the escalators on 3F of Langham shopping mall. So watch our picture guide carefully.

老點點心竹筒飯
老點點心竹筒飯

A typical neighborhood eating place for the locals in Mongkok known for its great dim sum.  So if you are looking for a fancy place with the sophisticated customer service, this restaurant is not the one for you.  The atmosphere is rather lively and energetic. Among many tempting choices on the menu, 清酒雲吞雞 and 鮮上肉響鈴腸 were just exceptionally good. Make sure you try them when you are there!

Seam Eett Taiwan Noodles 西門町台灣麵食
Seam Eett Taiwan Noodles 西門町台灣麵食

A small home style restaurant, which is located on the crowded street called Womens Street where you will find full of stalls, is very well known in Mongkok for its delicious traditional Taiwanese dish. It may be slightly difficult to find the restaurant at first as the street is almost jammed with the crowd, so follow our picture guide carefully. As you enter the door of Seam Eett Taiwan Noodles and find the hanging lanterns with the brown wood interior, you will be guided to one of their cozy seats. Our recommendations here are 擔擔麵 (Dan Dan noodle), 涼拌茄子 (eggplant cold dish), and 雞絲拉皮 (shredded chicken with green bean sheet and sesame sauce) which you can experience the real Taiwan taste (a little bit sweeter than Cantonese flavors). Enjoy!

Fei Jie 肥姐小食店
Fei Jie 肥姐小食店

This is a typical street food in Hong Kong known for its braised menus such as intestines, stomach, squids and gizzard, etc.  Never tried anything that looks so awful?  Well the truth is, it does not taste as awful as how it sounds.  Once you taste their mind blowing octopus and digestine, you will have a great chance to get addicted to those ugly looking food for the rest your life.  That being said, never say never.  Just give it a try for the first time!  They are absolutely delicious!
