As the central business district of Hong Kong, many multinational financial services corporations have their headquarters in the area. Consulates general and consulates of many countries are also located in this area, as is Government Hill, the site of the government headquarters. The area, with its proximity to Victoria Harbour, has served as the centre of trade and financial activities from the earliest days of the British colonial era in 1841, and continues to flourish and serve as the administrative centre after the transfer of sovereignty to China in 1997.

In this page, Picrumb introduces the best local Chinese restaurants near Central Station.

Yung Kee Restaurant 鏞記酒家
Yung Kee Restaurant 鏞記酒家

Yung Kee is known for its exceptional roasted goose which comes with crisp skin with juicy and tender meat when many restaurants in Hong Kong serve only the roasted duck.  Our recommendations here are their delicious roasted duck, the wonton noodle, and the Chinese style beef fillet which comes with onions and its tasty sauce.  Overall, Yung Kee serves very firm and reliable meal but make sure you try their roast goose when you are there!

Ser Wong Fun 蛇王芬
Ser Wong Fun 蛇王芬

Another place that is worth checking out at the Central is Ser Wong Fun which has long been a very popular spot with locals and foreigners who live in Hong Kong.  The snake soup here is exceptional and a "must order", while the pork chops and fried rice are very decent. It is not difficult to find out why the restaurant is always full of poeple. If you are looking for the authentic Cantonese cuisine for a reasonable price, Ser Wong Fun is definitely an excellent choice.

Tsim Chai Kee Noodle 沾仔記
Tsim Chai Kee Noodle 沾仔記

This place must be one of the best noodle shops in Central area.  When we first had their wonton noodle, we were stunned how such a small restaurant at a corner of the street in Central area could serve such high standard bowl.  The atmosphere is lively and energetic with full of people which proves the popularity of this restaurant. Among many tempting choices on the menu, the wonton noodle is just exceptionally good.  You will love it!

The Chairman 大班樓
The Chairman 大班樓

When we first had Chairman's preserved plum and cinnamon flavored sweet and sour pork spare ribs (very innovative flavor of plum), the soy sauce chicken, and longjing tea and chrysanthemum smoked pigeon (impressive smoked tender meat), we were quite surprised how such a small restaurant in a hidden street in between Central and Sheung Wan could serve such high standard dishes. The food in The Chairman is indeed phenomenal with so much thoughts put into every detail. The staffs were also very polite in an elegant manner which leaves everyone happy. If you are looking for an authentic Cantonese, make sure to make a reservation at The Chairman in advance.

Kau Kee Restaurant 九記牛腩
Kau Kee Restaurant 九記牛腩

Kau Kee Restaurant, known for its best beef brisket noodles, has a long history on Gough Street.  What makes it so amazing about the restaurant is its unchangeable flavor that never gets bored or rather insatiable which may make you eagerly want to have a bowl once in a while. On the other hand, this local restaurant is not a fancy restaurant with a refined service and a relaxing atmosphere, it is best to have a bowl and leave once you are finished.

Tim Ho Wan, the Dim-Sum Specialists 添好運點心專門店
Tim Ho Wan, the Dim-Sum Specialists 添好運點心專門店

If you are a dim sum lover, you must come to this restaurant to try their shrimp dumplings and perhaps sticky rice in lotus leaf in traditional style. A very thin chewy layer that covers the fresh shrimp inside, you may find the taste very different from other restaurants even with the typical dishes that can be seen anywhere. The restaurant is fairly crowded with locals which proves the popularity of the restaurant, but it is definitely worth to wait.

The Square 翠玉軒
The Square 翠玉軒

The Square serves a very traditional Cantonese food in a spacious and relaxing atmosphere with fine music. The excellent initial impression at the entrance with delicious dishes such as bird's nest stuffed in bamboo pith with crabmeat and crab roe sauce which had a very delicate taste of seafood mixed with shredded bamboo, the steamed lobster dumplings with fresh and firm texture of the lobster meat inside, and the shark's fin and wonton soup which had a perfect blend of the rich taste of the wonton and the freshness of the shark fin. Just a little bit pricey for us to introduce depending on what to order, but what you get for return is just outstanding.
