Have you ever had a sushi that is fully covered with the toppings that you cannot even see the rice underneath?  Today, Picrumb would proudly introduce the number 1 sushi restaurant Junchan among hundreds of great sushi places in Dotonbori. In this restaurant, everything you order including the soup are prepared in a very dynamic way. If you order salmon eggs for instance, you will see a big sushi with hundreds of fresh salmon eggs on top of rice which are mostly falling out to the dish. The size and the volume in Junchan is very satisfying, but above all, what customers really like about this restaurant is the quality of the sushi toppings (which are a top notch). The toppings are extremely fresh and so tasty that we can imagine that Junchan has a reliable outlet that is very professional and impeccable. When you are in Dotonbori for sushi, make sure to have a meal here.

Another place that is worth checking out is Iccho sushi where they serve very impressive fresh tuna. The sushi toppings are not surprisingly big but they are fresh enough and very affordably priced. The focus here is the Toro (tuna) that is elegantly prepared on the rice (shari) which almost melts in your mouth when you have a piece. Restaurant that keeps the freshness of the toppings is one of the most important factors for choosing the sushi restaurant and Iccho was certainly doing quite well on that. Other toppings were also very fresh and tasty, but what made us even more surprised was its cost performance. How would they serve such higher standard sushi in such affordable price?  It even seemed more reasonable than the conveyer belt ones which cannot logically be happened. In that sense, this was truly an amazing sushi restaurant without a compliment.

The conveyer belt sushi, so called kaiten sushi that is currently very well known worldwide, was first invented by Genrokuzushi more than 50 years ago by getting a hint from the beer factory where it was using the conveyer belt.  The owner wanted to serve sushi for everbody while sushi was very expensive at that time which used to be only for wealthy people.  So he put the expensive sushi on the conveyer belt just like putting cheap beer bottles on it to make it look familiar and reasonable for everybody.

Kitazo is a typical Japanese Izakaya that many locals would stop by after the work. The place is so popular that you may have to wait in line during the peak time around 6 - 8PM, but it is definitely worth checking out to see how Japanese would enjoy drinking and talking in normal weekdays.  The atmosphere is open in this izakaya as the staffs are very friendly and easy to talk to making funny jokes all the time (as many of you know Osaka is a city of comedy).  Kitazo has a variety of traditional Japanese dishes that goes quite well with the cold beer and Japanese sake, but the focus here must be their fresh tuna. Try their fried fatty tuna from around the collar bone that is crunchy outside and juicy inside with ponzu sauce. It is one of their most popular menus in Kitazo.  Enjoy the real ambience of Izakaya and the great traditional food in Osaka!

Ganko Sushi is a chain restaurant where they serve various kinds of fresh sushi in a very reasonable price.  The founder of Ganko, in fact, abolished serving sushi in a market price for the first time in Japan (approximately 40 years ago) when it was believed that serving them with market price depending on the seasons was a common practice in its industry.  The price was stubbornly (ganko) fixed by the founder of Ganko and they made a huge success in Kansai area without getting bankrupted.

If you are looking for the good value of sushi in affordable price, Ganko would be the one you should look for.

Acchichi's takoyaki (Octopus dumplings) may simply be different from what many of you had in the past.  What makes it so different is its freshness of the octopus delivered directly from the central market. The specially made iron plate that made it possible to make the outer layer crunchy and inside melting soft.  The sauce is just mind blowing which was also specially made in the factory in Higashi Osaka.  All above factors make Acchichi takoyaki simply exceptional.  If you ever had a chance to visit Dotonbori, make sure to try their excellent takoyaki.

What we like about Kukuru's takoyaki is its giant piece of octopus that is sandwiched in between the dumplings that makes it look extremely superb.  It may be just a little bit difficult to eat in one single shot as the octopus is super hot but we all know that it is part of fun.  It will definitely be a good chance to take photos and experience the real traditional takoyaki in Osaka that you would never see back home.

Being awarded by many well known food magazines, Kinguemon is one of the most popular ramen shops in Osaka for its exceptional shoyu based ramen.  Our recommendation is so called Osaka Black which is the most popular menu in Kinguemon, but if you are a beginner to this ramen shop or never had become a passionate ramen lover before, we would recommend a standard bowl (Kin Shoyu Ramen) instead which is just a little bit lighter than the Osaka Black but also tastes superb.  You can taste the deep flavor of the soy sauce based soup with perfect chewy texture of the noodles that will make you smile.  Enjoy!

The owner of Kamukura used to be a chef in the hotel when a lot of owners begin their careers from the ramen shops. And he has invented a new type of ramen that no one has ever tasted before.  In fact, Kamukura’s mild soup has an excellent reputation from many customers for its exceptional shoyu based flavor. We hear that the soup is so good that it is kept secret in the box and only a few managers know the recipe of it. When you come here, order “Oishi Ramen” which is the most popular menu in Kamukura. You will know why the shop has successfully expanded its share in Dotonbori in such competitive market for ramen in past few years.

Yasube is one of the best tsukemen shops in Dotonbori area. For those who don't know about Tsukemen, it is like a cousin of ramen. You take 2 or 3 strands of noodles with your chopsticks and dip them in the dense flavored soup to eat it. Yasube's fresh thick noodles with little bit of vinegar match perfectly with its dense flavored soup (which contains fish and pork inside) with tasty chashu pork. If you have never tried superb tsukemen in the past, we strongly recommend you do. You may also add the toppings upon request.
